The US Navy has selected 142 companies for the first phase of funding from the agency’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program. The contracts will provide approximately $10 million to these small businesses and each company will receive up to $140,000 per each award with an option for the Navy to contribute another $100,000. The selected proposals represent a range of technologies that aim to benefit areas of interest and needs of the Navy and its SYSCOMS.
QorTek is the recipient of two of these FY2020 Navy awards. These awards will enable QorTek to continue its efforts developing advanced underwater threat detection and torpedo countermeasures in increasingly hostile and complex acoustic environments. Both these programs will seek to greatly enhance Navy capabilities while reducing costs. QorTek will be providing Navy with advanced performance long-range underwater sensors with embedded electronics while further developing advanced countermeasure designs to defeat multiple underwater threats. Virginia class and Seawolf-class submarines are possible early adopters of these advanced threat mitigation systems.
QorTek has also recently secured multiple contracts with NASA through their SBIR and STTR program.
